Pearl Jam Enlist Greta Thunberg For “Retrograde” Video

Pearl Jam has dropped a new video for their “Gigaton” track “Retrograde,” which envisions a world devastated by climate change.

The animated clip features climate change activist Greta Thunberg as a fortune teller revealing what could happen if there’s inaction, showing images of New York, London and even Pearl Jam’s hometown of Seattle overwhelmed by giant waves.

“Something Pearl Jam has done so extraordinarily well for 30 years is to speak truth to power and fire warning shots,” the video’s director Josh Wakely shares. “Several other [“Gigaton”] songs spoke to me, but this one kept me up at night.”

As for Thunberg, she didn’t actually participate in shooting any of the video. She gave Wakely permission to use existing footage, which was then put on the body of another actress. She reportedly “loved” the clip.
