Ghost Introduces New Leader, Papa Emeritus IV
It looks like Ghost fans are closer to getting new music. The band has bid farewell to their current leader, Cardinal Copia – well, sort of. Every album cycle, frontman Tobias Forge steps out as a new on-stage persona.
Up until their GRAMMY-nominated album “Prequelle,” the leader was of the “Papa Emeritus” lineage, Cardinal Copia being the first outside of the bloodline. But everything changed on Tuesday night in Mexico City, when the band anointed Copia to “Papa Emeritus IV” onstage.
The reveal took place mid-set, during the saxophone solo of their song “Miasma.” Papa Emeritus IV is a glittery, colorful version of the band’s classic skeletal, pope-dressed leaders.
